| Frustrated
by the new Microsoft Office 2007? |
"
The research in our
labs, matches what I observe with the people I know
who start using 2007, is that it takes between 2 days
and a couple of weeks to feel at home in the new user
interface. Now this is NOT how much downtime each
user suffers making the transition, it is the time
it takes for them to feel as confident with the new
release and to take advantage of the new usability
"
David Overton
(Microsoft employee)
January 2008, Soft@ware introduced
Transition to Office 2007, a one day workshop assisting
users to feel comfortable and to get the most out
of the new look Microsoft Office 2007. With a completely
different look to previous versions, we have found
that people are frustrated when trying to find commonly
used functions quickly, and are not embracing the
new and improved functions that this latest version
offers. By end of 2008, a total of 32 workshops have
been facilitated, predominately within organisations
that have rolled over their entire workforce to the
new version.
Some comments from satisfied customers include the
following:
It was great to learn where everything is now
Very eye opening
as to what can be done.;
I found new functions I never knew
I had
I won't be swearing quite so much
now, I can see it has some great new stuff
Excellent.;
Good eye opener
into what can be achieved with this software.

| Teaching the Teachers |
Last October, St Peters Lutheran College in Saint Lucia used their pupil-free day to good effect by putting 22 of their staff through Basic and Intermediate Excel workshops. Soft@ware ran the two courses simultaneously in adjacent classrooms.
Both workshops were
a great success. Julie Nuske said it was a really
excellent workshop and instructor;, while Judy
Hart said: I thought it was perfect.;
The participants estimated that they would save an average
of 31 minutes a day as a result of the course! The saving
in time cost would therefore be $2,760 per person per
year. What a great use of a pupil-free day! |

| New courses for BMA Coal |
Following the success of a number of courses run for BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) in Moranbah, Mackay and on mine sites, BMA requested Soft@ware to develop some new courses. As a result, Soft@ware has successfully designed two special courses for BMA. They are:
-
Excel for users of SAP. This course will train users of the SAP system how to migrate information from SAP into Excel and then how to manipulate the data into effective, meaningful reports in Excel.
-
MS Project in a Capital Reporting
environment. This half day course has been delivered
to 126 people in BMA coal at mine suites across
the Bowen Basin. Alan Anderson, of Norwich Park
mine said that it was an excellent crash course;
and Lauren Gibbs, of Goonyella Riverside mine said
Hands on, good examples, take home resources,
trainer knows his stuff.;
As well as
these new courses, Soft@ware is working on a customized
Introduction to Computers course for BMA. Soft@ware
has now delivered courses in Access, Excel, Word, Power
Point and MS Project in many locations to BMA staff.
